WordPress and BuddyPress with PHP-FPM and ngnix

I’m giving BuddyPress a test run for a friend of mine. He runs the non-profit awareness blog (CM)2, a site for evangelizing clean mouths and clean minds at work, school and on the playing field.

The site owner has big plans for the site but is at a growth plateau. I encouraged him to transform his blog into a community so that people can more easily socialize the ideas and concepts the site promotes.

Since his site is already based on WordPress, we’re test driving BuddyPress to see how well it will fit into his goals and objectives. In doing so, I needed to set up a test server for him to play around with.

I followed a few of the tips that Kirk Kaiser from Sitepoint compiled to get my small prgmr.com VPS running more efficiently.

Update:

I also referenced this tutorial on Linode to customize the LEMP setup. Loving Linode and their wealth of useful articles and  tutorials.

A short bit on me…

First and foremost, I am a husband to the most incredible woman alive, a father of four amazing children and in general, I love being alive.

After that, I am a passionate Ruby on Rails developer, a {biking|climbing|hiking|swimming} enthusiast, a paleo chef (ahem…in my own kitchen), an avid reader, and a huge fan of tech startups.

My current role is software engineering manager at OveractDev Technology Partners in St. George, UT. We build custom web applications with pride and craftsmanship.
